ACTS Theatre Lake Charles opens The Pajama Game, on Friday, March 15, 2013.

Featuring many veteran ACTS performers as well as those making their stage debuts, ACTS’ production of The Pajama Game opens Friday, March 15 at ACTS’ One Reid Street Theatre.

The Pajama Game is a musical based on the novel 7½ Cents by Richard Bissell. It features a score by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross. The story deals with labor troubles in a pajama factory, where worker demands for a seven-and-a-half cent raise are going unheeded. In the midst of this ordeal, love blossoms between Babe, the grievance committee head, and Sid, the new factory superintendent. The musical, including a live orchestra above the actors onstage, features such memorable tunes as “Hernando’s Hideaway”, “Steam Heat”, and “Hey There”.

Cast as Sid Sorokin is ACTS stage veteran Gabi Fontenot (Beauty and the Beast, Kiss Me Kate), and as Babe, St. Louis Catholic High School senior, Emmie Lancon (Into the Woods). Other cast members include Matt Tonkovich (South Pacific, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum), playing Vernon Hines; Paula McCain (A Christmas Story, Lilies of the Field), is Gladys; Kelly Rowland (Into the Woods, The Importance of Being Earnest) plays Mabel; Matt Dye (A Christmas Story, Kiss Me Kate) is president of the union, Prez; Zac Hammons (South Pacific) plays the boss, Hasler; John Paul Primeaux makes his ACTS debut as Max; Teresa Labbit (Auntie Mame, Annie Warbucks) plays Mae; Anjo Elsbury (Auntie Mame, Dirty Work at the Crossroads) portrays Poopsie; Chanda Withers (Dirty Work at the Crossroads) plays Brenda; Anita Fields-Gold (Lilies of the Field, Oliver) plays Virginia; Casey Doucet makes his debut as Joe; Roselie Kelly makes her debut as Sandra; Jonathan Frantz makes his ACTS debut as Charlie; Bob Jines, set builder at ACTS, plays Pops; and ACTS Board president, Rebecca Pack (Lilies of the Field, Chicago), plays Carmen.

The Pajama Game is directed by Walt Kiser, produced by Betsy Doucet, stage managed by Diane Flatt and choreographed by Cathy Kurth, assisted by Kristen Harrell. Rehearsal pianist is Neil Quinn.

Dates and times of the performances are: Friday, March 15 at 7:30 PM, Saturday, March 16 at 7:30 PM, Sunday, March 17 at 3:00 PM , Friday, March 22 at 7:30 PM, Saturday, March 23 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, March 24 at 3:00 pm.

All performances are at ACTS One Reid Street Theatre.

Tickets for each performance are $30.00 for adults and $15.00 for students with a valid ID. Tickets may be purchased online at actstheatre.com or by calling 433-ACTS.
